Lori Blonigen, RNC – Director of Nursing

I am a Registered Nurse and have worked at Birchwood since 1991 in various capacities.  I have had the opportunity to be the Director of Nursing here since 2009.  I am very proud of the nursing staff that we have and am proud to say that we have had several deficiency free State Health Inspections the past few years.

One of the main reasons that I love my job at Birchwood is the ability to give personalized attention to our residents, we are all here for the benefit of the residents that we have the privilege to care for.  In my current position, I interact with residents and staff on a daily basis.  We truly believe in a “team” approach and with the help of my coworkers, there is no problem that we cannot come up with a solution to. You can contact me at with any questions or concerns.

Our responsive professional staff is committed to providing the highest quality care and services. Nurses are on duty at all times to assure prompt attention to each resident’s health and personal needs. Assisting residents with routine activities of daily living, administering medication and health education are among their principal duties. Because no two people are alike, our nursing staff, with the resident and the rest of the interdisciplinary team, designs an individualized plan of care for each resident. The plan of care is developed in consultation with the resident’s family and doctor. The plan takes into consideration the resident’s own likes, dislikes, interests and personal goals. Our Director of Nursing, who is a registered nurse, is responsible for supervising and directing all resident care.

All medications are administered to residents as ordered by the physician. A record is kept of all medication received, administered, destroyed or taken out of the building with the resident.

Birchwood Care Home contracts with a pharmacy that provides 24-hour delivery service. Should you choose a different pharmacy, it is your responsibility to obtain the prescribed medications and have them delivered to Birchwood Care Home.

The services of a licensed consulting pharmacist are used to review each resident’s medication record.
